Home Church (Teaching)
11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
What is teaching and why is it done? Teacher: Greek (διδάσκαλος/didaskalos) One who is gifted by God to instruct and equip the community of believers.
6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith;7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; - (Romans 12:6-7)
(Core Value) Equipping: we are committed to preaching and teaching the Word of God, and helping others grow in their calling and giftedness.
The mission is so much greater than the one person on teaching stage. God's Word changes
lives and it gives opportunity for anyone to get involved in the mission of God. We empower humble teachers with a teachable spirit to go and impact their world for the glory of God. See Ephesians 4:11-16; 2 Timothy 2:1-2; 3:16; Titus 3:3-5
Where is Teaching Found in the Bible? Jesus’ teaching ministry “1 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them…
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.”(Matthew 5:1-2; 7:28-29) Luke 19:47-48 Matthew 4:23 Matthew 21:23 Luke 5:17-18 Matthew 11:1 Matthew 5:1-2 Luke 5:3 Luke 13:26
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
Teaching in The Book of Acts 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Acts 2:42)
Acts 4:1-2 Acts 5:21 Acts 5:42 Acts 11:26 Acts 15: 35 Acts 18:11 Acts 18:25 Acts 20:20-21 Acts 28:30-31

Can Anyone Teach? No, both Paul and James affirm that teaching is only to be exercised in community by those who have the gift. Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.(James 3:1)
5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of a not her. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, 6 with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.(Romans 12:5-8)
Why is it important to keep Teaching at the Heart of Home Church? • False teaching can be catastrophic to the faith community “There were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you.” 2 Peter 2:1
Satan is the counterfeiter. . . . He has a false gospel (Galatians 1:6-9), preached by false ministers (2 Corinthians 11:13-12), producing false Christians (2 Corinthians 11:26). . .Satan plants his counterfeits wherever God plants true believers (Matthew 13:38). -Warren Wiersbe
Is Teaching Enough? No, James highlights the importance of acting upon the truth we hear. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.(James 1:22-25)
No, Jesus encourages followers to not only listen to instruction, they should put His teachings into practice. 24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:24-27)
Teaching is only the beginning! What is being done with the truth taught on Sunday? Romans 2:13; James 2:14–20; Matthew 7:21; Matthew 7:24–27; Luke 8:21; John 13:17
