Back to the Future (Relationships)
There are at least three things that every relationship requires:
1. Relationships Require Clear Identity (IN CHRIST)
Colossians 3:11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.
Don’t let identifiers become your identity.
2. Relationships Require Sacrifice
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Who is one person you are willing to sacrifice for? If everyone in the church has one person they will sacrifice for, this church will be a great place.
Connect to a small group...Requires you to sacrifice more time to build relationships, but it will pay off.
3. Relationships Require Shovels
Proverbs 14:4 Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean, but abundant crops come by the strength of the ox.
Everyone is messy. If you are ever going to grow deep relationships, you have to be willing to deal with someone else’s mess.
Jesus didn’t die for clean “good” people. He dies for broken, filthy, and guilty people (You and I alike).
