Back to the Future (Diversity)
Core Values – are guiding principles of an organization, like DNA. It’s the why that drives our mission: connect people Jesus, the church, and the world.
We are going to look back at what we’ve valued as two churches, with the dream of uniting us for greater things in the future.

Diversity - a assortment of different things. This is a biblical concept. It is exactly what the scriptures define the church is and should be.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13 12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. Cf. Romans 12:4-5; Revelation 7:9-10
Galatians 2:11-14 11 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party. 13 And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?” Cf. John 4 It is one of the biggest issues facing our nation, and the church should lead in the example of it.
Titus 2:1-8 1 But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. 2 Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. 3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. 6 Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. 7 Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, 8 and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.
The biblical pattern is for older people to invest in younger people.
Colossians 1:19-20 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. Cf. Isaiah 59:15-16; 60
Culture and trends change in every generation, but the gospel doesn’t.
This goes against the grain of American individualism. It may START with a personal relationship with Jesus, but it then works its way into the fabric of our communities.
“Becoming one in Christ means we become brothers and sisters in a family of God. But if we don’t know the story of others, how can we be united in our love for them?” – Ken Wytsma
We will continue to build a diverse church, because all people matter to God.
