2 Corinthians 4:1-6
2 Corinthians 4:1-6 1 Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. 2 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. 5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. • Handling the word– Our job is to handle the word correctly. Cf. 2 Timothy 2:15 • Manifestation of the truth– or “illumination”, that is the work of the Holy Spirit in which He gives individuals the ability to understand the Word of God. We need this illumination because of sin. 1 Corinthians 2:14, 16 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. [Cf. Ephesians 4:18] 16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ. [Cf. Acts 26:18] • Do not preach ourselves, but Christ– Psalm 115:1 Not to us, O LORD, not to us, But to Your name give glory Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth.
Cf. Galatians 2:20
6 For it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. • It is God– 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Cf. Acts. 2:47; Philippians 2:13
