Romans 8:1-13 (Spirit, Mind, & Body)
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He conde
mned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
That’s where a lot of people stop reading. I’m saved, so no there’s no condemnation, but that’s not where the period is. Allow Paul to finish his statement, don’t cut him off.
According to the Flesh – Cf. Galatians 5:19-21
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
If there is no condemnation for those in Christ, why do some Christians live in condemnation?
Inward man delights in the law, but there are other members of us that are at war…the mind and the flesh. Cf. Romans 7:18-25
1 Thessalonians 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:2-4 – Spirit man is made alive through the gospel (Cf. 1 Thessalonians 5:19)
Romans 8:5-7 – Mind is being renewed (Cf. Ephesians 5, Romans 12)
Romans 8:8-13 – Body will be renewed (Cf. 1 Corinthians 15)
What this whole man will produce…
According to the Spirit – Cf. Galatians 5:22-23
